Mateusz Przystał, our lead designer for the Moonfish line, was tasked with creating a “first-choice watch.” A completely uncompromising timepiece, crafted from the finest materials, that will set the standard for quality in design and craftsmanship for years to come. Moonfish became a turning point for us—a project that pushed us out of our comfort zone to create a small masterpiece of watchmaking. The GMT version takes it a step further, opening this uncompromising design to the world of long-distance travel.

The first challenge and defining feature of the model was the use of 904L stainless steel in its construction. Moonfish is a pioneering design on the Polish watchmaking market, utilizing this exceptional alloy. It is significantly more resistant to corrosion and harsh conditions. Due to its increased hardness, it is also much more demanding to machine precisely and more expensive than 316L steel, which is widely used in the industry.

The meticulously finished bezel ring deserves special attention, with its steel, satin-finished insert featuring a 24-hour scale. The multi-faceted beveling on its crown was designed and executed with exceptional sophistication. The result is not only a beautiful, raw surface, but also an extremely grippy texture, making it easy to precisely operate the bezel when reading the time in another time zone.

Moonfish is a watch that loves light. All its key elements were designed to reveal their depth in the sunlight. The watch face captivates with an intense, oceanic shade of blue and a sunray finish that creates a spectacular interplay of shadows and reflections. The deep blue contrasts perfectly with the distinctive GMT hand featuring an energetic, red tip. Detail lovers will also appreciate the crown featuring an embossed letter “B,” filled with Swiss Swiss Super-LumiNova X1 lume. The hands, applied hour markers, and the tip of the GMT hand were also coated with this substance. Super-LumiNova X1 is an absolute world leader—it activates quickly, glows brightly and intensely for a long time, illuminating not only the dial, but also the immediate area around the watch.

Completing the design is a minimalist, full-round case back featuring a starry sky motif, on which the central model name appears to float in space.

Technology

At the heart of the watch is a modern Japanese Citizen Miyota 9075 automatic movement with a GMT complication. This is a “true GMT” (flyer GMT) design, valued by travelers for the ability to independently jump-set the main hour hand without stopping the watch. The movement operates at a high frequency of 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz), is jeweled with 24 jewels, and offers a 42-hour power reserve. The watch is also equipped with a seconds stop function and a date window at 3 o’clock, finished with a polished frame.

The water resistance is an uncompromising 200 meters (20 ATM). Moonfish performs perfectly both during everyday challenges and while diving or swimming. The solid, screw-down crown and screw-down case back ensure the safety and watertightness of the design.

Dial

The Moonfish GMT dial is a magnetic, saturated blue. The sunray finish brings the dial to life with every movement of the wrist. A clearly legible date window in a polished frame is positioned at 3 o’clock. The harmonious layout is completed by the classic Balticus logo at the top and the “MOONFISH AUTOMATIC GMT” model designation above 6 o’clock, crowned with the proud inscription “MADE IN POLAND.”

Materials

The case and bracelet were crafted from the highest grade of 904L steel, characterized by its beautiful polished hue, hypoallergenic properties, and enhanced resistance to salt water and acids. The middle links of the bracelet feature an elegant, mirror-polished finish, contrasting perfectly with the brushed surfaces of the case. The dial is protected by scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with a double anti-reflective coating, ensuring excellent clarity in any lighting conditions.
