Marcin Oleksy
Polish football boasts only a handful of globally recognized names. Among stars such as Boniek, Lewandowski, Pajor, and referee Marciniak, there's undoubtedly a place for Marcin Oleksa. He's our ambassador, a representative of the Polish national amputee football team, and, from 2025, a player for Śląsk Wrocław.
Marcin gained worldwide fame and recognition thanks to the Ferenc Puskas Award for scoring the most beautiful goal in the world in 2022. Although he is an amputee footballer, the competition in this category does not divide players by skill level. Players nominated for the award include Dimitri Payet, the 2021 European Championship runner-up, and Richarlison, a current Tottenham Hotspur player.
This most beautiful goal, which catapulted Marcin to the top of the footballing world, was scored against Stal Rzeszów. It's worth watching over and over again. Warta, where Marcin played at the time, played a positional attack. Marcin received a cross from the right and, just inside the penalty area, made a ferocious scissor-kick. His shot sailed past the helpless goalkeeper and into the net near the post.
Marcin Oleksy is a disabled person. He lost his left leg in an accident. Sport proved to be not only an excellent form of rehabilitation but also opened up new perspectives. After the tragic event, Marcin took a long time to recover, and the fate that robbed him of his health also offered him an opportunity. Marcin recognized this opportunity, demonstrating the fortitude, strength of character, and determination that characterize the greatest. The goal that brought him fame was the culmination of his work and the effort he put into navigating this new reality.
Marcin Oleksy has become an inspiration to many people, including children. His attitude demonstrates that, despite various difficulties, it's worth fighting for yourself and your dreams.
