The history of the Balticus brand

Beginning

The Balticus brand was born in 2014. It was then that we debuted with a watch from the Grey Seal series. We never imagined that Grey Seal would open the door to a world full of extraordinary emotions and exceptional people. The foundation of our success was our team. Always intimate and committed to every project. We celebrated victories together. We humbly accepted every lesson the fascinating and at times mysterious Polish wristwatch market taught us.

The course set at the very beginning by the brand's founder, Bartosz Knop, has led us to where we are today. Although a little older, we feel much wiser. Most importantly, however, we remain passionate and committed. Just like in 2014, we still want each new watch to be better than the last. We also know that the greatest is still ahead of us.

Inspirations

Every story has its unsung heroes. In our case, it was the small Icelandic watch manufacturer JS Watch. Hidden at the end of the world, they create watches that defy logic and common sense. Their timepieces combine modern engineering with the extraordinary history of the island of fire and ice. JS Watch's designs reflect the influence of Icelandic legends, elements of pristine nature, and the open-mindedness of the island's inhabitants.

Our next inspiration was the sea. Ours, the Baltic Sea. It gave rise to the name Balticus. And it is the axis around which subsequent watches are created. It is the common denominator of each design. We want Balticus watches to be synonymous with freedom. To embody the joy of exploring the world and seeking new horizons and places to visit.

When creating Balticus watches, we want to offer a piece of ourselves. We design watches that we ourselves would want to wear. Their value lies in small series, refined details, and consistent design.

Way

We invite you on a journey through the history and present of Balticus. Perhaps what you read will inspire you to buy our watch, or who knows, maybe even create your own timepiece.

September 2014 was our beginning. Company registration and a lot of enthusiasm for work. We wanted to create an independent company that would meet global brands and offer its customers something unique. Back then, we didn't know much about watches. We knew as little about them as most of you. The company name came about completely unexpectedly. Like a bolt from the blue, the idea to connect it with the Baltic Sea, which everyone recognizes and can locate on a map.

Our first watch appeared in September 2015. However, we take this date with a pinch of salt. We remember that the watch debuted around that time. We were incredibly proud of it, especially since the brand's founder created everything from scratch. Bartosz Knop had no watchmaking experience whatsoever. Nor had his immediate family or friends ever repaired or built watches.

In 2015, we began working with the renowned Gdynia-based watchmaking salon Ogrodowicz i Syn. This allowed us to draw on the long traditions of Polish watchmaking. We learn from and draw on nearly 80 years of experience. The Ogrodowicz i Syn watchmaking salon supports us in watch assembly and quality control. It is thanks to their work that our customers can enjoy the reliability of Balticus watches.

2016. It's difficult to pinpoint the exact month today. But it was that year that the Stardust debuted. Bartosz Knop has a special fondness for it, as it was originally his own design. Thanks to its style, the watch brought popularity and recognition to the brand. Sharp shapes and form. Add to that the aventurine dial. After the GP's debut, dials featuring this stone became very popular. We'd like to believe that it was Balticus who rediscovered this unique stone for watchmakers.

In 2016, designer Mateusz Przystał joined the team. The godfather of Bartek and Mateusz's relationship was journalist Rafał Jemielita. He introduced the two men to each other, and thus, by chance, a collaboration began that has lasted almost 10 years. Mateusz has had his hands in almost every Balticus watch. He improves what we've managed to break in the past and ensures that future designs are consistent with the brand's DNA.

In 2016, an agreement was signed between Balticus and the Handball Superliga. This marked the beginning of our presence at handball matches, first men's and then women's. Players of the month were awarded our watches. Collaboration with the world of sports fueled our efforts. We currently support the Legia Warsaw women's football team.

In 2018 , a uniquely beautiful diver was born. The Deep Water is the brand owner's favorite model. The watch isn't just for desk divers. It's a fully-fledged diving tool that's perfect for everyday wear. The Deep Water is taking the market by storm. Its two oxygen tanks, positioned at 12 o'clock, are the watch's hallmark and a feature that makes it unmistakable.

2022 is a time when we feel quite confident in the market. And we know that sometimes it's worth taking a risk. That's why we decided to create a watch that would open a new chapter in the history of our company. In our opinion, Moonfish has also made a mark on Polish watchmaking. We were the first watch company in Poland to build a timepiece using 904L steel. An expensive material, it's reserved exclusively for the elite.

In 2020, the sports world needed someone like our company. This year, one of Poland's most successful clubs, Wisła Kraków, entrusted us with creating a watch for the White Star's most loyal fans. The occasion was exceptional: the club's 114th anniversary. We fulfilled this task brilliantly. The result was a remarkably original design, which today is a rarity on the collectors' market. The strength of the first edition is demonstrated by the fact that in 2025, under license from Wisła Kraków, we created a second watch for fans of the Kraków team.

2025. We are creating watches for the GROM Military Unit and the 1st Armored Brigade. These are two special models, intended exclusively for members of these units. They are not available through the general sales network. This is a condition of our cooperation. We never imagined we would be honored to create watches dedicated to such exceptional individuals. It was a dream of ours, one we had never had the courage to express aloud before.

2022. Collaboration begins with Krzysztof Miruć, an architect and television personality. We are constantly expanding our group of ambassadors, always ensuring that they represent the highest standards in both their professional and personal lives.

Marcin Oleksy begins his collaboration with us in 2022. He scored the most beautiful bicycle kick goal of 2022. For this feat, he received the FIFA Puskas Award for Goal of the Year a year later.

2025. We are finalizing work on Piątuń. A unique watch based on the Volans series. After over a decade of experience, with this watch we are opening a new chapter in the history of our company. Again, boldly, and again, a little against the grain. Without courtesy, compromise. At Piątuń, everything is top-notch. It is the sum of our experience to date and a gateway to an extraordinary tomorrow.
